Witness stops brutal stabbing of woman after hearing her screams

A man has been jailed for life after a “frenzied” knife attack on a woman in the street. Itesh Ira, 35, of Belmont Avenue, Wembley tried to kill his victim – stabbing her repeatedly in the face, neck and body so hard he broke the knife he was using and left her to die on the street.

Ira had laid in wait for his victim on Mount Pleasant, Wembley to finish work late at night before his horrific attack, armed with a knife on Friday, September 30, 2022. The bloody attack was caught on CCTV which showed that following the frenzied stabbing, Ira repeatedly stamped on the victim’s head whilst she lay motionless on the floor.

He only stopped when a brave witness who had heard the victim’s screams came out of his home address and challenged him – and he immediately fled the scene. This witness was awarded a Judge’s Commendation and was credited with saving the life of the gravely wounded woman.

Police were called to the scene in the early hours of the morning to reports that a woman had been repeatedly stabbed in the street. Police officers and LAS paramedics found the woman lying on the pavement barely conscious with multiple stab wounds to her face, neck and body. Officers also located a bloodstained knife nearby which had been snapped in half due to the excessive force used during the attack.

Officers conducted fast-time enquiries which led them to identify Ira as the suspect. An immediate manhunt was launched which resulted in him handing himself in at Wembley Police Station. Officers noted he had a fresh wound to his hand as well as traces of blood on his clothing.
