A once idyllic holiday hotspot in Mexico has become the world’s most deadliest city as murderous cartels turn it’s streets into a gruesome war zone.
Colima, Mexico, now holds the grim title of the world’s murder capital following a litany of violent deaths fuelled by a robust drug trade and cartel turf wars.
According to The Citizen Council for Public Security and Criminal Justice (CCPSCJ), the city’s 330,000-odd residents are horrifically well accustomed sound of gunfire or sight of body parts and corpses littering the streets.
Colima’s homicide rate has tripled since 2015, reports The Sun, and more than 600 violent murders were recorded in the city in 2022, making it the most dangerous place on Earth.
Many of these killings have been linked to the three cartels locked in battle, the fearsome Sinaloa Cartel, The Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), and Los Zetas, who have turned day-to-day life in Colima into a nightmare.
Police have even found multiple mass graves in the city, and locals have witnessed the vile sights of decomposing body parts, hanging corpses and disembodied heads, which serve as warnings to enemy cartels.
