Southern California plagued by ‘burglary tourism’ as unvetted foreigners target luxe homes

Authorities are sounding the alarm about a concerning new burglary trend, wherein foreign criminals exploit a State Department travel program to target affluent neighborhoods across the U.S. for lucrative home invasions.

“They use cellphone-jamming equipment to disrupt Wi-Fi networks and expensive security systems,” explained investigators. “In some cases, we caught them hiding in brush wearing ghillie suits, waiting for homeowners to leave so they could sneak inside.”

This criminal activity is facilitated by Chile’s inclusion in the U.S. Visa Waiver Program, which permits tourists and business travelers to enter the United States for short stays without undergoing extensive visa procedures or vetting processes.
