Hamas, designated as a terrorist organization by several countries, including Israel, the United States, and the European Union, fired a barrage of rockets from Gaza on Sunday, triggering air raid sirens in Tel Aviv for the first time in months. This display of resilience comes amid Israel’s ongoing military offensive, which has lasted over seven months.
While there were no immediate reports of casualties or damage, Hamas’ military wing claimed responsibility for the attack, marking the first long-range rocket strike from Gaza since January.
The Israeli military stated that eight projectiles crossed into Israel from the southern Gaza city of Rafah, where recent incursions by Israeli forces have occurred. Additionally, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad group later claimed to have fired rockets at nearby communities. Despite efforts to deliver aid to Gaza through a new agreement to bypass the Rafah crossing, humanitarian access remains uncertain due to ongoing fighting.
