Ohio woman sentenced to life in prison after toddler dies alone at home during 10-day vacation

An Ohio mother who left her 16-month-old daughter alone at home for 10 days to go on vacation has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Kristel Candelario, 32, departed from her Cleveland residence on June 6, leaving her daughter, Jailyn Candelario, behind.

Candelario traveled to Detroit and Puerto Rico before returning home on June 16, as confirmed by the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office.

Upon her return, Candelario found Jailyn unresponsive and immediately contacted the authorities. Tragically, Jailyn was pronounced dead at the scene. She was discovered severely dehydrated in a locked playpen, surrounded by wet blankets, and had tragically succumbed to dehydration and starvation, as determined by the autopsy.
