Nigerian unions shut down power grid with indefinite minimum wage strike

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) reported that union members shut down the national grid by 2:19 am, affecting six substations. Ibom Air suspended flights indefinitely due to the strike, and United Nigeria reported airport closures nationwide.

Electricity and aviation unions directed members to halt services in compliance with the strike, while oil unions threatened to stop production.

Nigeria’s oil regulator assured that contingencies are in place to maintain output. President Tinubu’s recent reforms have led to a nearly 30-year high in inflation, exacerbating the cost-of-living crisis in Nigeria.
