Kylian Mbappe: Why is France forward speaking out on country’s elections?

Before France’s 1-0 win over Austria at Euro 2024, Kylian Mbappe made headlines by speaking on the upcoming French elections. “Extremes are at the gates of power,” warned Mbappe, expressing his disapproval of a country that doesn’t align with his values.

French President Macron called a snap parliamentary election after Marine le Pen’s National Rally won the European elections. Voting starts on 30 June. Mbappe’s remarks sparked debate on athletes’ political involvement.

Fellow players Dembele, Giroud, Pavard, and Thuram also urged citizens to vote against RN. The French Football Federation emphasized its political neutrality.
