Joe Biden defends decision to end Trump’s border controls

President Joe Biden reiterated his stance on border policy, telling Time magazine he does not regret ending the border controls imposed by former President Donald Trump, despite record illegal immigration.

By the end of Fiscal Year 2024, Biden is projected to have overseen over 10 million migrant encounters at U.S. borders.

Biden dismissed reports suggesting he would reinstate Trump’s “Remain in Mexico” policy, which required asylum seekers to stay in Mexico while awaiting their court dates.

A significant policy move by Biden was halting the construction of the border wall along the southern border, which had been advancing under Trump.
