In Spain, four dead, 16 injured in restaurant collapse

A tragic restaurant collapse on Mallorca’s Playa de Palma left at least four people dead and 16 others injured. The incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. local time at the Medusa Beach Club, a two-story establishment that included a roof terrace and cellar bar. Emergency services reported that the collapse trapped patrons and staff, leading to a devastating outcome.

Among the deceased were two German tourists, a Spanish waitress, and a long-term Senegalese resident. The injured include 16 Dutch tourists, with at least five in serious condition.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez expressed his concern on social media and assured that the government is ready to provide necessary assistance. The accident, which occurred just before Mallorca’s peak tourist season, has cast a shadow over the popular destination.

The German Foreign Ministry indicated that some of the victims were likely German nationals, while local authorities continue to manage the situation. Mallorca, part of Spain’s Balearic Islands, is known for attracting millions of tourists each year, making this incident particularly impactful as the island prepares for its busiest period.
