Imran Khan acquitted of leaking state secrets, but remains in jail

A Pakistani court has acquitted former Prime Minister Imran Khan of leaking state secrets, but he remains in jail due to another case. Khan, who had been sentenced to 10 years for making public a classified cable from 2022, was exonerated by the Islamabad High Court along with his Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi.

Despite the acquittal, Khan continues serving a seven-year sentence for illegal marriage. Since his ouster in 2022, around 200 cases have been filed against him, with several resulting in acquittals.

Khan’s exoneration is seen as a political boost for his party, which recently won the most seats in the February election.
