A man has been banned from having anything to do with women on public transport after subjecting a woman to a terrifying ordeal.
Kristaps Berzins, 34, was given the strict conditions after he became increasingly aggressive towards a woman on a train from Birmingham to Manchester.
He sat next to her on June 30 last year and tried talking to her despite the fact she was wearing headphones.
Berzins continued to make personal and inappropriate comments that steadily got worse before he sexually assaulted her.
Eventually Berzins went to use the toilet and that’s when she managed to escape.
She went to another seat and reported what had happened to one of the train staff who alerted police.
As a result he has now been jailed for seven months after admitting sexual assault at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court.
He was also banned from approaching or sitting opposite, touching or communicating with lone women on public transport for the next five years.
Berzins has also been told to sign the sex offenders register and pay £300 in compensation.
