Governor reports woman killed by Ukrainian strike on civilian car

One person has been killed and three others wounded when a Ukrainian drone hit a car carrying civilians in Russia’s Belgorod Region, Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov has said.

Gladkov took to Telegram on Tuesday morning to announce “another targeted strike by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on civilians” in his region.

The strike took place outside the village of Oktyabrsky, near the Russia-Ukraine border. The governor said a UAV struck a car carrying four members of one family.

“To our great sorrow, there is a fatality – as a result of the explosion, a woman died on the spot,” he wrote.

The three other people inside the vehicle were wounded. The woman’s mother-in-law suffered an open head injury, while her husband and father-in-law received multiple shrapnel wounds. They are now being treated in hospital, Gladkov said.

Russian regions have seen several attacks on civilian vehicles by Ukrainian drones since the start of this month.

On Sunday, one person was killed and several injured in a UAV strike on a minibus carrying farm workers in the village of Radensk, in Kherson Region.

On May 6, seven people lost their lives and dozens were wounded when a drone struck two minibuses with civilians near the village of Beryozovka in Belgorod Region.

Two days earlier, two were injured when a UAV struck a bus in the village of Voznesenka, also in Belgorod Region. Later that day, another person was wounded in the same area when his car was hit by a kamikaze drone.

The Defense Ministry in Moscow said on Tuesday that Russian air defenses prevented an “attempted terrorist attack” overnight by Ukrainian forces on facilities in Belgorod Region involving an Olkha multiple rocket launch system and a drone. Another UAV was shot down in Kursk Region, which also borders Ukraine, it added.
