Europe’s largest power plant ‘on verge of blackout’ – Ukraine warns of disaster

Europe’s largest nuclear power plant was on the brink of a blackout, potentially endangering millions of people.

Ukraine’s nuclear energy agency, Energoatom revealed on May 23 that one of two overhead power lines supplying the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) had ceased operation.

According to the agency, this malfunction left the mammoth facility reliant on a single power transmission line.

In an alarming statement shared via Telegram, Energoatom cautioned: “In case of this line failure, another blackout will occur at the ZNPP, which is a serious violation of the conditions of normal operation of the plant and threatens the development of an accident! “.

The agency did not disclose what caused the disruption, nor did they attribute it to a Russian attack. Nonetheless, Energoatom’s chief accused Russia of “creating an extremely dangerous situation” at the plant, reports the Express.

Petro Kotin implored: “In order to prevent the development of worst-case scenarios, the plant must return to the control of its legitimate operator Energoatom as soon as possible.”
