Egyptian and Israeli soldiers trade fire at Rafah

On Monday, Egyptian and Israeli troops reportedly engaged in a clash at the border near the Palestinian city of Rafah. According to initial reports, Egyptian soldiers fired shots at Israeli army personnel, resulting in the injury of at least seven Israelis and the death of one Egyptian soldier.

The altercation comes amid escalating tensions between the two nations. Following the incident, the Egyptian military increased security measures in and around the Rafah border crossing in Egypt’s North Sinai province, an area seized by Israel earlier this month.

A high-level security source informed The New Arab under conditions of anonymity, citing the lack of authorization to brief the media, that Israeli soldiers returned fire and subsequently fired warning shots before retreating from the scene. Unconfirmed reports suggest that Israeli troops have since withdrawn from the Palestinian side of the Rafah border crossing.
