Cristiano Ronaldo has done it again! He’s snagged another award, leaving big names like Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, and Erling Haaland in his wake.
After making a move to Saudi Arabia in January, Ronaldo’s been smashing goals left and right. He’s been on fire, netting 54 goals in 59 games this year. That’s his best scoring spree in a single year since 2017.
Playing for Al Nassr, Ronaldo slammed in 34 goals in as many matches in the Saudi Professional League. And now, he’s set to grab the Maradona Award for Best Goalscorer at the Dubai Globe Soccer Awards 2023. This ceremony, backed by the Dubai Sports Council, is happening later this month.
Ronaldo outshone Mbappe, who scored 52 goals in 53 matches, Harry Kane with 52 in 57, and Haaland with 50 in 60. And it’s not just the Maradona Award he’s taking home. The Portuguese icon is also scooping up prizes for Best Men’s Player, Best Middle East Player, and Fans’ Favourite Player.
These awards aren’t just decided by a small panel. Fans worldwide and a jury of over 30 top football names, including Iker Casillas, Francesco Totti, Luis Figo, and Marcello Lippi, have had their say in choosing the winners.
