The hush money trial of former United States President Donald Trump is nearing its conclusion after more than four weeks of testimony from nearly two dozen witnesses. Beginning Tuesday morning, prosecutors and Trump’s defense team will present their closing arguments in the New York courtroom, which has seen intense exchanges and significant moments since late April.
Following the closing arguments, the jury will deliberate to reach a verdict, an event poised to happen just months before the critical November election, where Trump, a Republican, will face off against Democratic incumbent President Joe Biden.
Trump, who has pleaded not guilty to 34 felony counts of falsifying business documents related to hush money payments to an adult film star before the 2016 presidential election, awaits the jury’s decision in this historic trial, marking the first criminal proceedings against a former US president.
