Buttigieg struggles to explain why Biden has only built ‘seven or eight’ EV charging stations

Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg faced challenges on CBS’ Face the Nation explaining why the Biden administration has only built “seven or eight” electric vehicle (EV) charging stations despite the $7.5 billion allocated by the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022. The goal was to create a national EV charging infrastructure, but progress has been slow, with no stations completed by the end of 2023.

By April, only a handful of stations had been built under the program, while the fossil fuel industry has successfully lobbied to have these stations constructed at existing gas stations, potentially influencing the pace and location of the new infrastructure.
