The burial ceremony for Iran’s late President Ebrahim Raisi took place on Thursday at the holy shrine of Imam Reza in his hometown of Mashhad. Raisi, along with the late Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and other members of his entourage, tragically perished in a helicopter crash in Iran’s East Azarbaijan Province on Sunday.
In response to the incident, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei declared five days of national mourning. A series of commemorations began with a farewell ceremony in Tehran on Tuesday, attended by many grieving Iranians.
The mourning continued with a funeral procession on Wednesday in Tehran, where high-profile figures paid tribute to Raisi and Amir-Abdollahian. Ali Larijani, an adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader and a former parliamentary speaker, highlighted Raisi’s well-mannered and humble nature, which had strengthened relationships between politicians and the public.
Mohammad Hosseini, social and cultural adviser to Iran’s president, praised Raisi for his popularity and the love he garnered from the Iranian people, describing him as hard-working, sincere, pious, and selfless. These tributes reflect the profound impact Raisi had on Iran and its people.
