British-Iranian jailed for meeting Iran’s former Queen

Nasrin Rooshan, a British-Iranian woman, has been held in solitary confinement in Iran for over 200 days on charges related to her meeting with Farah Pahlavi, the former Queen, and her participation in London protests about Mahsa Amini’s death in custody. Rooshan, who became a British citizen 25 years ago, was detained at Tehran’s Imam airport while attempting to leave Iran after visiting a sick relative.

Rooshan is currently imprisoned in the notorious Evin prison, operated by the Revolutionary Guards. She was detained alongside her first cousin once removed, Sara Tabrizi, who was later released on bail but died under unknown circumstances shortly after. The family has been vocal about her unjust detention and the harsh conditions she faces.
