Five suspects have been charged after a man was reportedly stabbed in the heart following an incident in Liverpool city centre.

Merseyside Police were called to the junction of Church Street and Whitechapel at around 5.30am on December 27 last year following reports of a stabbing. A 21-year-old, later named as talented young boxer Anthony Dodson – son of former British super middleweight champion boxer Tony Dobson – was found with stab wounds. He remains in hospital in a critical but stable condition.

A further two men, aged 21 and 23 self-presented at hospital with injuries, one with a stab wound to the back and the second with a laceration to the head. Both have been discharged from hospital following treatment, along with a fourth man, 20, who was found with lacerations to his head.

Following investigations, Merseyside Police have charged five men in connection with the incident. Cameron Quinn, 21, of Swanside Avenue, Huyton, has been charged with violent disorder; Section 18 wounding and possession of an offensive weapon. Milne Critchley, 20, of Sprucewood Close, Anfield, Luke Bowland, 21, of Webster Road, Wavertree, Adam Draper, 21, of St David’s Road, Huyton and George Miller, 20, of no fixed abode have all been charged with violent disorder.

Police investigations believe the incident is linked to an earlier disturbance involving a group of men who were in Safe House bar on Victoria Street. Liverpool City Council’s Licensing Sub Committee agreed to suspend the licence of the bar following an application by Merseyside Police.
