American ballerina arrested in Russia, faces life in prison for $51 Ukraine donation

A 33-year-old amateur ballerina with dual U.S.-Russian citizenship faces life in a Russian prison for allegedly donating $51 to Ukraine’s war effort.

The woman, identified as Ksenia Karelina, was detained by Russia’s Federal Security Service on charges of treason, accused of collecting funds for the Ukrainian military and participating in pro-Ukrainian activities in the U.S.

The arrest has sparked international concern, with the U.S. seeking more information and consular access. The incident highlights Russia’s tough stance on dual citizens and its use of hostage diplomacy.

Meanwhile, Razom for Ukraine condemns the arrest, calling for the release of unjustly detained individuals.
