Alabama is preparing to execute Jamie Ray Mills, convicted of brutally killing an elderly couple two decades ago. Mills is scheduled for execution by lethal injection, despite his appeals to the U.S. Supreme Court, claiming prosecutorial misconduct and maintaining his innocence. The murders occurred during a home invasion, where Mills allegedly attacked the couple with various weapons to steal prescription drugs and money.
This execution marks Alabama’s first since the introduction of nitrogen gas as an execution method earlier this year. Despite Mills’ pleas and his attorneys’ efforts to present new evidence, the state’s attorney general argues there is no doubt about Mills’ guilt and is pushing for the execution to proceed.
