Nikki Haley is set to pull out of the Republican nomination race after Donald Trump cruised to an emphatic Super Tuesday victory, NBC News has claimed.
Haley’s move cedes the GOP nomination to the former President, who will now face off against Joe Biden in a 2020 rematch.
The “ball is in his court,” a source close to the Haley campaign said, referring to the former President.
Haley’s decision comes off the back of Super Tuesday that saw her score just one win out of 15 states.
The former South Carolina Governor is set to make the official announcement at 10am ET (3pm GMT) today.
She is not expected to endorse Trump for President during her speech, despite belonging to the same party.
Instead she will encourage the former President to earn the support of those who had originally backed her, in defeating the incumbent Joe Biden.
