An indignant President Biden, trying to refute a special counsel’s report that called into question his mental acuity, committed another verbal gaffe Thursday night by referring to the president of Egypt as the “president of Mexico.”
Mr. Biden was inches away from departing a stormy question-and-answer session with reporters at the White House when he returned to the podium to respond to a final question about Israel’s military invasion of Gaza.
Addressing the need for humanitarian aid in Gaza, Mr. Biden said, “Initially, the president of Mexico, Sisi, did not want to open up the gate to allow humanitarian material to get in.”
He was referring to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi; Egypt borders Gaza.
Mr. Biden also said he believes that Israel’s military response has been “over the top.”
