Teen dies in ‘drugs tragedy’ at rave – becoming third to die at club in 4 months

A third young person has died at a nightclub in just four months – with the latest a teenager who suffered a suspected ecstasy overdose.

The woman, 18, collapsed at SWG3 warehouse in Glasgow’s Finnieston district following a six-hour Teletech hard dance rave on New Year’s Day into January 2. She was taken to the city’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where she later died.

It comes after two 18-year-old men died in suspected drug-related incidents in August following a rave at the same club. By comparison, just one drug death at fellow Glasgow club The Arches effectively saw it close in 2015, having lost its late licence due to concerns raised by Police Scotland.

Scott Allison, from Cumbernauld, Lanarkshire and Marcus Dick, from nearby Coatbridge died after going to a rave at SWG3 where superstar DJ Ben Hemsley was headlining. Scott tragically died after he was found collapsed at Croy railway station in Lanarkshire late on the night of the gig. Marcus died in Queen Elizabeth University Hospital after taking ill at the venue in the early hours of Sunday.
