Tim Scott: I stand by decision to certify Joe Biden’s 2020 victory

The senator came under fire in recent months for dodging questions about whether he’d certify the 2024 presidential election before clarifying that he “certainly” would.

South Carolina Republican Senator Tim Scott reaffirmed his stance on Sunday regarding his certification of the 2020 presidential election results, which confirmed Joe Biden’s victory.

During an interview on ABC News’ “This Week,” Scott expressed his commitment to upholding electoral processes, stating, “I will stand by that decision and the next decision to certify the fact that Donald Trump will be the next president of the United States.”

Despite being rumored as a potential vice presidential candidate for former President Donald Trump, Scott’s position on the 2020 election could create friction with the presumptive Republican nominee. In an April interview with Time Magazine, Trump indicated his preference for staffing his administration with individuals who endorse his unsubstantiated claims of election fraud. Trump said he “wouldn’t feel good” about appointing someone who acknowledges Biden’s legitimate win.
