Palestinian-American software engineer Ferras Hamad has sued Meta, alleging he was discriminated against and unlawfully fired for investigating claims of censorship against Palestinian creators and activists.
Hamad’s lawyers claim he was terminated in February for being of Palestinian origin, Muslim, and for performing his job duties, which included investigating censorship allegations.
Meta asserts that Hamad was fired for violating the company’s data access policies, which dictate strict guidelines on data access by employees.
The lawsuit contends Hamad did not violate any policies, emphasizing he was tasked with assessing Instagram’s integrity filters for Gaza, Israel, and Ukraine, and refutes claims of his personal connection to Palestinian photographer Motaz Azaiza.
