A reclusive Amazon tribe, the 2,000-member Marubo, has been divided by social media and pornography addiction after Elon Musk’s Starlink brought the internet to their remote rainforest community.
Initially, the tribe celebrated the connection, but elders now lament its impact. Tsainama Marubo, 73, said, “Young people have gotten lazy because of the internet.”
The Marubo, who traditionally frown upon public displays of affection, have seen young men sharing porn and exhibiting more aggressive sexual behavior. Alfredo Marubo expressed concerns about the disruption of their cultural standards, fearing the internet’s influence on the tribe’s decorum.
