Houthi militants started attacking Red Sea shipping in November 2023, ostensibly as a means of pressuring Israel to end its war in Gaza against Hamas, with the US and UK responding with airstrikes including the use of jets from the USS Eisenhower against the Houthis' military assets. Yemen Houthis say they launched attack on US aircraft carrier ‘Eisenhower’ in Red Sea

Yemen’s Houthis launched a missile in the direction of the US aircraft carrier “Eisenhower” in the Red Sea, responding to US and British strikes on Yemen, according to the group’s military spokesperson, Yahya Saree, as reported by Reuters on Friday. However, a US defense official told Reuters they were not aware of any attack on the “Eisenhower”. Saree also stated in a televised address that six US and British strikes resulted in 16 deaths and 41 injuries, including civilians, with targets in the Hudaydah province such as the port of Salif, a radio building in Al-Hawk district, Ghalifa camp, and two houses.

The US and British militaries confirmed they launched strikes on Houthi targets in Yemen on Thursday to prevent further disruptions to Red Sea shipping by the group. The US Central Command announced that US and British forces hit 13 targets in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen.
