‘This cannot continue’: Wong calls on Israel to stop Rafah offensive

Foreign Minister Penny Wong has called for an immediate halt to Israel’s operations in Rafah following a devastating strike on a tent camp that killed dozens, including many women and children. According to Palestinian health officials, at least 45 people, about half of them women and children, lost their lives in the attack on Sunday.

The strike’s impact was exacerbated by the ignition of fuel, cooking gas canisters, or other materials within the densely populated camp, which housed displaced individuals.

Addressing the Senate estimates last night, Wong emphasized the need for Israel to reconsider its actions, echoing the concerns of the international community. “The international community has been united on this.

What we have seen in the past 24 hours reinforces why we and the international community issued this warning,” she stated. “The death and destruction in Rafah is horrific,” she added, underscoring the tragic consequences of the ongoing conflict.
