The slaughter of Palestinian scholars in Gaza is a deliberate Israeli tactic

Throughout the 229 days of the ongoing conflict in Gaza, Israeli forces have targeted and killed numerous Palestinian scholars, scientists, academics, and researchers along with their families.

The Gaza media office recently released a list of 100 such individuals, highlighting the deliberate targeting of highly qualified professionals who were often at home or seeking refuge when they were assassinated. Among those killed were Dr. Khitam Elwasifi, Dr. Refaat Alareer, and Dr. Sufyan Tayeh, all of whom had made significant contributions to their fields and to Palestinian society.

Dr. Elwasifi, a physics professor and deputy dean at the Islamic University of Gaza, authored 50 research papers and was killed with her husband in an airstrike. Dr. Alareer, an English literature professor and social media influencer, co-founded initiatives to support young activists and was killed along with his family members.

Dr. Tayeh, a world-renowned physicist recognized by Stanford University and appointed UNESCO chair for physics and space sciences in Palestine, was killed when his home was flattened by an airstrike.
