4-year-old dies from heroin after accidental ingestion of mother’s leftover drug

  • Sanaa Riggins was found unresponsive at her family’s home Saturday night 
  • The child’s mother Christine Huntspon, 32, admitted to using the deadly drug the morning of her child’d death
  • Huntspon was arrested on Sunday and charged with first-degree child endangerment resulting in death, First Alert News reported. 

A four-year-old Missouri girl has died from a heroin overdose after she ingested the drug her mother had left lying around.

Sanaa Riggins was found unresponsive at her family’s home at 91000 block of Cozens Avenue Saturday night around 6.30pm.  Emergency personnel transported the child to St. Louis Children’s Hospital. She was pronounced deceased an hour later, St Louis County Police said. 

The child’s mother, Christine Huntspon, 32, was arrested on Sunday and charged with first-degree child endangerment resulting in death. 

Officers discovered a number of heroin capsules when they arrived at the home. The child’s mother admitted to using the deadly drug the morning of her child’s death, and professed that her addiction, likely caused her child’s death.

Huntspon is being held at the St. Louis County Jail on a $500,000 cash-only bond, First Alert News reported.
